Scheduling & Appointments
How do I schedule a house call?
The best way to schedule an appointment is to complete our secure online Appointment Request Form. You may also call (410) 833-3300 or email finksburgvet1@hotmail.com.
What should I do to prepare for my house call?
Preparation helps the visit go smoothly. Please do the following before the appointment:
- Weigh your pet if possible
- Clear off a counter or table (for smaller pets)
- Place a towel or blanket on the cleared surface
- Collect a stool sample (cat litter included is fine)
- Secure cats in a carrier or bathroom beforehand
- Keep dogs leashed
- Ensure the area is well-lit
These steps help ensure your pet’s comfort and safety during the visit.
How long will my appointment take?
Most appointments last 30 to 45 minutes, depending on your pet’s condition and the services required. House call visits are intentionally unhurried, so there is time for questions and thorough care.
How will I know what to expect during a house call visit?
Dr. Vaughan will arrive in his pickup truck, typically alone. Most services once performed in the clinic can also be performed in your home. He will come inside your home to examine and treat your pet.
He understands that real homes do not look like museums, and there is no need to clean or prepare your home beyond the simple steps listed below.
If the weather is pleasant, dogs may be seen outdoors in a secure, fenced, or leash-controlled area.
What is expected of me during the visit?
Dr. Vaughan may require an able-bodied adult to assist with gentle restraint. He will instruct you clearly if help is needed.
- Please do not attempt to restrain your pet unless directed.
- If you cannot or are unwilling to assist, the appointment may not be able to continue.
- A muzzle may be used for safety if necessary.
These steps protect you, your pet, and the veterinarian.
After Your Appointment
What happens after the visit?
Payment is due at the time of service. Dr. Vaughan will provide estimates before your appointment when possible. If you prefer not to proceed with any part of the recommended care, or wish to add something not listed in your estimate, please notify him in advance so he can arrive prepared.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept:
- Cash
- Check
- Zelle
- Credit cards are not accepted
Housecall fees vary depending on travel distance and will be discussed prior to your appointment.
When will I receive lab results?
Dr. Vaughan will follow up the next day with laboratory test results whenever possible.

Do you offer in-home euthanasia?
Yes. Dr. Vaughan provides compassionate in-home euthanasia, hospice support, and guidance for quality-of-life decisions. These visits are handled with sensitivity and respect, ensuring your pet remains comfortable at home.
